Spilsby is twinned with the mediaeval town of Fresnay sur Sarthe in the
Pays de Loire region of France. The official twinning charter between
the 2 towns was signed in 1988, so next year (2008) we celebrate our 20th
anniversary. Over the years many succesful visits have been made between
Spilsby and Fresnay by sporting teams, musical groups and people interested
in experiencing a different culture and making new friends.
Everyone who lives in Spilsby and the surrounding villages is very welcome
to become involved in the 'Spilsby & District Twinning Association'.
It doesn't matter whether or not you can speak any french or how young
or old you are. All you need is a desire to have new experiences and make
new friends. We regularly organise social/fundraising activities and visits
between Spilsby & Fresnay. Look out for our information board in 'Shaws
Tearooms' in Spilsby and posters around town.
Fresnay is also officially twinned with Bassum in northern Germany. For
the last few years Spilsby has enjoyed an unofficial 'twinned' relationship
with Bassum, with small groups from Spilsby visiting friends in Bassum,
and a coach party from Bassum enjoying a weekend in Spilsby.
