Spilsby Rotary Introduction
|
Rotary
is a worldwide organisation representing businesses and occupations. Its
object is to serve the local and international community by using its individual
members’ skills. It also provides finance for many projects like Polioplus,
eye operations, and water boreholes abroad as well as focusing on local
needs. There are also international education schemes.
Rotary in Spilsby meets on Thursday evenings at the White
Hart hotel (telephone 01790-752244) 7.00 for 7.30 p.m. We have a meal
and often a speaker. Sometimes we hold outside functions and ladies nights.
We tend to be fairly light hearted and fun is something we believe in.
In the last year we held a party for local OAPs and handicapped folk
as part of the celebration of Rotary’s centenary. Also, with the
Skegness and Alford
& Mablethorpe
clubs, took over the Embassy Centre at Skegness and held a Grand Event
including a tea-party for over 200 OAPs followed by a stage show by schoolchildren
from the area, and as well held an event where all charitable organisations
in the district could demonstrate what they do to the public.
Rotary held a Ceilidh at the Spilsby Franklin
Hall on, and themed to, St Patrick’s day. It was well attended and
was great fun. It is hoped to make this an annual event. It has a Shooting
Gallery with which it supports other organisations like the Spilsby
Show, the Lions on Cracker Day,
the Revesby Show, and the Wrangle Show. Annually Guy Fawkes night is celebrated
with a Grand Bonfire and Firework Spectacular where we also brew and sell
our renowned mulled wine.
We hold an annual golf competition on the famous Hotchkin Course at Woodhall
Spa. This is the eighteenth year of the competition and is again a sell-out
with players coming from many neighbouring counties to take part. This,
over the years, has raised many thousands of pounds for good causes.
There are twenty seven members of Rotary at present and we are now seeking
more members. If you would like to join us telephone Paul Jackson on 01754-830434.
