Information Whilst the levels of truancy at the King Edward School are relatively low, it is known that some pupils do choose to play truant throughout the term. The parent being unaware of the location of their children believing them to be at school. It is not known how much crime is attributable to truancy but the welfare of the child is of obvious concern. Intention To highlight the fact that the authorities are working in partnership
to resolve the potential problem and to reinforce the police/education
authority commitment to section 17 crime and disorder act 1998. Method Police officers to be briefed to expect calls from the public concerning
this matter and to respond to those calls where possible. Administration The school will continue to keep records of attendance and Gerald Rose will keep police records of the number of telephone calls received and the truants details in order that this may be evaluated. Communication There are no additional police resources required and communication will be in the usual way via HQ control room or via Spilsby Police Station. Human Rights To focus on a child’s welfare and education is an appropriate step to take and there is therefore no human right implication. |
