Cracker Day (2006) with Spilsby Lions Club
Victorian theme for Spilsby's annual Christmas Cracker Day

This year's event was be centred on a Victorian theme - A Dickens of a Christmas - and was held on Saturday, December 16, between 10am-3pm in the Market Place.

Lions' president Sue Oliver said: "We try to raise as much money as possible for charities in the area.
"Last year we raised around £4,000, which was spread across 20 charities.

There was a variety of charity stalls, craft stands, hot and cold refreshments and Spilsby Theatre put on a show. St James' Church and the Methodist Chapel will also join in with the festivities.

Carols were sung around the Christmas tree at 11am.

*** Cracker Day was a separate event to the Christmas parade and light switch-on organised by the Actively Promoting Spilsby's Environment (APSE) group. It was held on Friday 02 December.

The marketplace was filled with people enjoying Spilsby's Craker Day, organised by the Spilsby Lions, which is always one of the most popular events on the town's calendar.

Lions' president Sue Oliver said: "It was a lovely day and the feedback we have had has been very positive.
"Everybody had a very good day and a lot of the charity stalls did very well. There was good attendance and a nice atmosphere."
As in previous years "A Dickens of a Christmas" was the theme.

There were many charity stalls, including Macmillan Cancer Support, which sold homemade cakes and preserves, the Lions providing hot refreshments, and Spilsby Rotary Club, which supplied mulled wine and took framed photographs.

Local organisations such as the Spilsby Youth Centre, Linkage Community Trust and the Rainbows also had stalls, and fire fighters performed a demonstration and gave fire safety advice.

Mrs. Oliver said it was nice to see so many shopkeepers getting involved this year by donning fancy dress as well.
She said: "We want to say thank you to everyone for pulling together, and a big thank you to all the extra volunteers who helped us set up and finish."
